HTEC-video’s RB-TemTV-N infrared thermal camera has recently been installed in a slab reheating furnace at a steel plant, where it is providing continuous, non-contact, real-time monitoring of slab temperatures inside the furnace. Designed for direct insertion into the furnace chamber, the camera delivers live temperature data of the workpieces, enabling operators to adjust combustion settings on the fly and ensure slabs are heated to the required temperature.

The system also helps optimize combustion efficiency, reducing energy consumption while maintaining stable and efficient production. Multiple measurement points and zones within the furnace can be monitored simultaneously, offering comprehensive thermal coverage of the slabs and furnace walls. Users can define custom monitoring areas and temperature thresholds. If any zone exceeds its set limit, the system automatically triggers an image or video alarm and logs the event.

To handle the extreme conditions of high-temperature environments, the RB-TemTV-N probe features a dual cooling system—air and water—that ensures reliable long-term operation at furnace temperatures up to 1800 °C, with minimal maintenance. An automatic retraction mechanism adds another layer of safety: in the event of abnormal conditions such as excessive furnace temperature, loss of air pressure, or power failure, the probe is automatically withdrawn from the furnace.

The RB-TemTV-N is equipped with a high-resolution 1280×1024 detector and an 85° wide-angle lens, delivering thermal images at 30 frames per second. This ensures clear, detailed visuals for precise temperature assessment. The image below, captured during operation at the steel plant, shows thermal data collected inside the furnace. Each green marker represents a temperature reading point (in °C), clearly illustrating the distribution of heat across the monitored area.
